Peanut Podi/ Groundnut Podi/ Palli Kaaram/ Verushanaga Kaaram Podi/ Breakfast Chutney Powder/ Rayalaseema Palli Podi

Whenever I'm served upma at home the dish does this pity talk at my face, Oh Bless, what do you do this time? I'd reply back: now that a jarful of peanut podi is here, I'm gonna add ghee along and have it merrily😋😄! In short, this podi/pudi helps me escape the scowls of my mom on not finishing my share of upma. One could use this podi and ghee in roties as well. I enjoy curd rice, lemon rice, dibba rotti, dosas, and idlis with this podi. Let's get blending this fam fav peanut podi.

To Make This Recipe You'll Need :

Peanuts (roasted & cooled) - 450g
Roasted gram (putna) - 50g
Cumin seeds/ jeera  - 15g
Curry leaves - 3 to 4 sprigs (or) 5g
Garlic - 1 bulb (or) 40g
Red chilies - 100g
Salt - to taste

Method :

1. In a pan, dry roast the red chilies, cumin seeds, and curry leaves and leave it to cool.
(dry roasting should take about 1 min or so for the ingredients to crisp up a bit).
2. Now, add these roasted and cooled ingredients + salt to a blender jar and blend it to a rough textured powder.
3. Add the peanuts and roasted gram and blend until it's textured, not completely smooth.
4. Add the garlic cloves and pulse it enough.
5. Transfer this ground mixture to a wide bowl and mix well using your hand or a spoon. Check for taste, add salt if necessary, or red chili powder can be added if needed.
6. Your breakfast condiment is ready!

Notes :

1. Peanuts can be used with or without skin. Color varies accordingly.
2. Add the peanuts to the blender only after they cool down. You might end up with peanut paste if ground warm.
3. Roasted gram or putna is added to achieve free-flowing consistency of the pudi as in general it's likely to be lumpy and greasy.
4. Color of the pudi also depends on the type of chilies.

  Thank you 🙏

See You Soon 😃
